Boat shoes are stylish and good for skateboarding. Adidas has noticed this and developed a while ago the Seeley model which combines the style of a boat shoe with a skateshoe. Lem Villemin from Stuttgart had the chance to design a colorway for this season. We’ve had the chance to put his adidas Seeley to the test.

Durability

Durability of the Seeley is ok. Adidas put a lot of attention to detail in regards to increasing the lifespan of the shoe’s durability. For starters, the shoe features toe cap area without any seams. The seams that connect the front with the lateral area are in a position where the contact of the griptape is minimalized.

Cushioning

Even though the difference between vulc and cupsoles is dwindling, cupsoles usually still offer more cushioning.As shown in the cut, the sole has bee-comb shaped pattern, reducing impact forces. The thin sole in the midfoot area offers very little cushioning though.

Boardfeel and grip

Boardfeel is one of the strengths of the Seeley, mostly due to the very thin sole in the front foot area and its slim insole.The overall grip is good, mostly because of the sole structure in the front foot area.

Comfort and stability

As a low-rise profile shoe, the stability is average. Your ankles are left open and exposed, but its low-rise shape allows room for more control for ankle rotation. If you’ve sprained your ankle before, this may not be the best shoe for you.

Summary

The Seeley is adidas’ adaption of a boat shoe, offering good grip and boardfeel while maintaining adequate durability. There is definitely room for improvement in regards to the shoe’s stability, but overall, a well-equipped low profile shoe for your summer skate sessions.
